Here’s this week’s Wednesday Story:

Camp Fire - a short story by Patrick S. Stemp and Anita Soelver

Camp Fire

Hot dog spiders
Toasty brown marshmallows
Greasy hands
Sticky fingers
Smoke and sparks
And hissing logs
Summer time is here!

Patrick's thoughts

It’s been a few years since we had a back yard fire. They can be fun, but they can also be buggy and hot. For me, it’s one of those activities that is much more fun when you’re doing it for someone else (your kids). Entertaining them, helping them make their spiders and blowing out the inevitable marshmallow blaze (and eating the ones that got too burnt for their taste).

It’s not nearly as fun when it’s just a couple of adults sitting around trying to remember if there’s been a ban from the fire department yet. And don’t forget to have the hose ready to go! I hope those sparks don’t land on the neighbor’s roof. Who threw a battery in there! I wonder what’s on Netflix.

Anita's thoughts

I laughed when Patrick sent me this story, because high on my wish list right now, is a little camp fire set where we can roast marshmallows, sausages and bread etc. I now have a garden for the first time in forever, and I want to use it. I want to take my kids and grandkids to the backyard and enjoy summer evenings in a way that we never could while we were in apartments.

So I’m hoping to make this picture a reality soon! 😀
I want sticky fingers too.
