This was a tricky one.

Patricks wonderful story about the two mighty dragons took me much longer to illustrate than the first short story. Not for the task of drawing itself or because it was complex, but to find the look, style and feel that would match “Sticky Picnic”, to let the dragons be somewhat “mighty”, while still being cute.

If you’re curious, you can see the recording of the process below. I have spared you for the sketching this time, because it took forever, and was not the least bit interesting, so what you’ll see is the lineart and coloring. It still took a long time even for that, because of the details (simple as it looks), but I had lots of fun, once I finally found the look I wanted for it. Had I known from the beginning where I was ending up, I could have spared myself for most of the background to the left, but I didn’t. My plan was to have the text light on the dark clouds, but it drowned, and I like the way it turned out much better than my original idea 🙂

I have posted screenshots of each stage of the process too, if you don’t have time for the video (which is short, but we’re all busy) 🙂

Keep burping,

Anita
