Here’s this week’s Wednesday Story. Have fun finding the characters in this illustration 🙂

Up a Tree - a short story by Patrick S. Stemp and Anita Soelver

Up a Tree

Firemen come to save the day
When Dad gets stuck
Saving the kid
Who saved the cat
Who chased a squirrel
Who stored a nut
At the top of a giant tree

Written by Patrick S. Stemp
Illustrated by Anita Soelver

Patrick's thoughts

Not much to say here. I had a Russian nesting doll kind of idea and rolled with it.

It’s a little like that song about the old woman who swallowed a cow to catch the dog, to catch the cat, to catch the bird, to catch the spider, to catch the fly…

Anita doesn’t enjoy drawing trees, or thinks she’s not very good at it. It’s my goal to write as many trees as possible into every story we publish so she can get lots of practice. If you want to see some more of her trees, you can check out our newest book – Goblin and Pig and The Pot of Gold!

Anita's thoughts

Not sure what would be worst for me; My child being stuck in a tree, my cat being stuck in a tree, me being stuck in a tree or me drawing a tree. It’s just an impossible task to draw trees. At some point I’ll have to draw a gazillion trees, and at some point it’ll stick.

Until then, I’ll fake it till I make it.
